Software upgrades

on

Again I find myself in a place of transition, upheaval and off course. (See “Turbulance”) The past 6 months have been a blur and in that I have noticed a weakness in my spirit. One day I just slept. Like I’ve told my patients, if you dont take time to rest, your body will do it for you. Apparently my soul will too. So I’m taking pause and resetting. I wish we had a button like a computer or modem built in. Oh wait, we kinda do. Feeling bitter, confused or frustrated recently? Has something come up in your life that you just can’t seem to get past? The universe is telling you that the love and joy you held in your heart is starting to be overcome by anger and frustration, dropping firewalls and allowing spam into our heads. The good news is we have an internal reset button. Meditation.

Similar to any phone or computer, when your software is running slowly and lagging at minor tasks, the first thing that IT would advise you is to turn it off, then on again. Meditating is like closing all the applications you have running on your phone or computer and restarting the device. This lets you be more mindful of the apps (thoughts and emotions) that you have open, and allow you to focus on which ones you really need to keep running. You can connect with yourself and really take a look at what is going on in your head, your heart, and your spirit. When you can clearly see where the hate and frustration you feel is coming from, it will be easier to erase it from your life.

Let’s continue the metaphor of software: your soul, spirit, the universe within is like a security system that is always looking out for you. When they begin to detect darker emotions, like frustration, hatred, anger or jealousy, they send you a pop-up about it. But you have to be paying attention to receive the message! If there’s too much going on in your head you may miss the notification and crash. That’s where meditation comes in. Its an internal reset.

There are as many different methods to meditate as there are people, so there’s no wrong way to go about it. If you’re already a master meditator, then now is the best time for you to focus on deleting the spam from your internal software. But if, like many people, you’re not sure where to start,
there are simple steps to take, and you won’t need a free 1 month trial.

First and foremost, you should find someplace that is quiet and calm. It should be free of distractions (or as free as you can get) and in a place that you are comfortable being in for a while. Next, acquire or find someplace comfortable to sit or lie down. This can be a chair or a sofa or the floor, if that’s your thing. Before you move on, run a systems check on your body. Have you used the bathroom? Will your legs go numb in this position? What is that sound and where is it coming from? Make sure that you take care of all of these distractions before you start. Then, set a timer for the duration that you’re planning to meditate for. Five to ten minutes is an excellent amount of time to set aside for beginners. Some of us can get to 30 with practice. My sweet spot is about 25 minutes. The key is, there is no right or wrong length of time. You do you.

Next is the meditational part. Start by focusing on your breathing, then, when your mind is quieted, focus on your soul, your spirit, the universe, or your god if you so choose. They will be guiding you through this
internal software update. Be kind to yourself when you meditate. It’s okay that your mind wanders and it’s okay if you can’t do it for very long. Your updates are understanding of you and you should be as well. Let them guide you through sorting out and deleting spam. You may be surprised at what you find behind the emotions and energy you’re feeling!

The key with any software upgrade is to understand how the new patches will assist in your general operating system. Though you may need to press restart a few times.
