Life in Cadence

Cadence is essential. Cadence imprints patterns into our body, mind, and very soul. This incorporation builds strength and resilience in our cortex. Subconsciously it detects these imprinted patterns, but it rarely appreciates them. Instead, our left brain defaults into judgement; comparing, and doubting our self worth. If not kept in check this autopilot becomes self destructive.

These are the thoughts that crossed my mind this morning. Having changed my riding style I now find I have to keep cadence with my motor to prevent slipping or a dead spot with each revolution. In life, we need cadence to be efficient and when we become efficient, we bounce back from slip ups faster and it’s actually quite meditative.

Cadence, in its various manifestations, is one of the most healing forces on the planet. It’s why when we’re anxious, we’ll also often feel off and the words that come out of our mouths will either be at the most inappropriate time, or hurtful, or both. It’s imperative to keep cadence in body, mind, and soul. Only then will we feel centered and settled, at home in ourselves and in the world.

When we center ourselves in nature’s cadence, we’re afforded some immunity from the incessant, unsolicited noise and friction that presses upon us from the outside world. To be centered in these rhythms provides us with the space to rest more comfortably in our own true nature, without the threat of violation. This affords us to enjoy the bliss of our own harmonics.

When we’re aware of the cadence of the universe, we may recognize that even awareness itself is a loop of unbroken exchanges between our interior and exterior cadence. We shouldn’t hurry beyond our natural pace, nor hurry the pace of the natural world, which has its own. We are the very cadence of life. A microsystem of the rhythmic macro world.
